Specimens: Influence, Quality & Availability

The guarantee for repeatable and reliable results.

The Influence of Specimens on the Quality of Tribological Results

Tribological results can only be as good as the individual components of the test system used for their generation. The prerequisite for measuring the friction and wear of lubricants, coatings and materials is a reference system consisting of a calibrated tribometer and the use of samples and specimens that feature a consistently high quality.

When it comes to the testing of lubricants, the quality standards to be met by the base and counter-bodies are so high that no deviations caused by inconsistent test body qualities must occur between the individual tests of a test series. The same applies to coatings.

As regards the tribological assessment of the performance of a coating-substrate system or a material, it must be ensured that the uncoated counter-body does not cause unstable measurement results.

Specimens from Optimol - Defined Specification, Certified Quality and availability

Many years of experience from international standardisation work, equipment calibrations, tribological problem solving and close relationships with our suppliers have enabled us to develop and manufacture specimens that meet the demands of modern tribological test series.

From the materials selection to precisely coordinated machining processes to precise heat treatment processes to the in-depth quality assurance of our specimens, we are able to track every single process step during production.
Prior to their delivery, the specimens undergo a quality test at our in-house tribology testing lab. This quality test is carried out by trained specialist personnel in accordance with the relevant rules and standards using high-quality and precise measuring instruments. The standard specimens required for standard tests are delivered with a corresponding factory certificate which contains, among other things, hardness and roughness data as well as reference coefficients of friction from our "calibration run" for SRV® tribometers.

Optimol's Range of Specimens

We see ourselves as a solution-oriented supplier. Not only do we offer robust and precise test systems and excellent customer service, but we are committed to supplying our customers with high-quality reference specimens. To meet this requirement, we keep a comprehensive range of specimens for all tribometer series in stock.
